Title: Learning/training environments?
Post by: melee on 19 Jan 2011 10:06:59 AM
I'd love to do some more work on UI with COGNOS, but I can't showcase a lot of it because of our rules regarding publishing any sort of data. Does anyone have a training install at home? How are you learning COGNOS? I assume I'll need a license, but is it cost prohibitive for the sole purpose of blogging/learning?

You could install the Cognos "great outdoors" sample data at work and use that. Lots of examples you'll find (such as in Support Link articles, etc.) use that data so it is a good common point of reference for anyone learning or sharing what they've learned with others.

I often advise clients to set it all up because if you need support from Cognos and can mock up your issue with the sample data it is much easier/faster for support people to help you. Ditto that for forums, etc...

Well, our admin installed the sample data wrong and it's horribly hopeless that it will get fixed any time soon :( That's why I ask about alternatives, unfortunately

I see the first blog post in your future: "Tips and Tricks to properly install the Cognos Sample Data" ... then forward discreetly to your admin
