Title: Cognos Planning on VMWARE
Post by: Moreshwar on 22 Nov 2010 05:20:06 AM
Hi All,

I have installed the planning and oracle client on the VMWARE. I get following when i try to start the planning server.

[ ERROR ] Failed HRESULT [0x80004005] :The service failed to start because it could not successfully open a database connection with the Planning Store or the Content Store configured in Cognos Configuration. Details:
Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed.

The database connectivity is working fine i checked it through SQL Plus, TOAD. The Content Store Test is also successful.

Thanks
Moreshwar

Planning uses an oledb connection type to the planning store.
Make sure the full administrative option of the oracle client is installed.

You will also need to copy the appropriate .jar file (classes12.jar or ojdbc14.jar) from the Oracle install path (Example path: ..\product\10.2.0\db_1\jdbc\lib into the appropriate cognos install path directory (..\cognos\c8\webapps\p2pd\WEB-INF\lib

These details are outlined on pg 74 of the install and configuration guide for 8.4 (this page will be roughly the same in other versions, do a search in the appropriate .pdf for classes12 or ojdbc14)
