Title: Scheduling Default Reports to XLS rather than HTML in report Studio
Post by: johnpenna on 17 Aug 2005 06:46:26 AM
Hi does anyone know how , if possible, to receive just an xls file in the scheduler via email. We want to upload this automatically to our DB without any html, mht etc...

Cognos sais it cannot be done. Wondering if anyone has a workaround that does not involve extracting the xls file to the desktop/saving and then emailing manually.

Any help would be aprreciated

If your goal is to kick off a bunch of reports and save their XLS version into a standalone DB, it can be doen using event based scheduling, small JAVA program and CRN SDK.

yes we have had no success with cognos UK support.

We use want to extract a simple xls file from cognos without the mht, html etc straight to the users mailbox.

They have blamed the issue on microsoft. If anyone knows the underlying technology . i.e. which Java 2 release, which toolkit, which libraries etc) or even the binary file format (BIF) created by cognos.

Only the developers know how this is achieved.
