Dear Sir,
When i want to start cognos service from the cognos configuration
I'm running it as Administrator and using windows 7
it gives me [Start Service]
1. [ ERROR ] An error has occurred within Tomcat. Please check the log file 'C:/Program Files/cognos/c8/logs/tomcat.log'.
2. [ ERROR ] CFG-ERR-0106 Cognos Configuration did not receive a response from the Cognos 8 service in the time allotted.
Check that Cognos 8 service is available and properly configured.
please i need your help and i that is the tomcat.log file.

It may just be that the service takes longer to start than the default timeout that triggers the message. If you go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, is your IBM Cognos 8 service listed with a status of 'Starting', or 'Started', or blank?
Also take a look at cogserver.log to see if there are any error messages in there that will give you a clue...

i did what you said
First i found that Cognos 8 in services is : Blank
and also when i opened cogserver.log
i found that error
The connection string is "jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:XE"
Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
so the problem is in connecting to the account that i made in Oracle.

Is your Content Store in Oracle? Did you check the connectivity to Content Store from Cognos Configuration?
You can check the tomcat log file to see what it says
1st tell me did u copied oracle14.jar from "C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\jdbc\lib" to "C:\Program Files\cognos\c8\webapps\p2pd\WEB-INF\lib" now give correct user name n password and connection string is "xe" .. filesave it.......now 1 main step for u go to programfiles\cognos8\bin click shutdown.bat now click start.bat now open cognos n start services..
