Title: Passing properties as parameters
Post by: Joe Gilvary on 23 Sep 2010 02:12:49 PM
Hi,

I have a Crosstab grouped in a List by the names of the organizational divisions. My query includes division codes for those names, and I've added division code to the properties for the List, as well as for the Crosstab Node Member (column header).

I drill to another report from that header and want to pass the division code as an input parameter, but it's not going through to the target report. When I run the target manually and supply the division code through the prompt page, I see the behavior I want to invoke on the drill-through.

I'd appreciate any help figuring out where I'm messing up.

Thanks,

Joe

What do you mean with passing 1 code? If anything is passed then I would expect all codes within the column. How would Cognos know how to pass which code?

I'm sorry if I'm unclear. I'm trying to pass the value of the division code for the "current" section. Division code was a column in the crosstab and I sectioned on it. Now I want to pass that particular value from that particular section into a parameter for the drill-through. The drill-through is associated with another column header in the same crosstab.

Is that a better explanation of what I'm trying to do? Do I need to display the division code for each section in its crosstab somewhere? (I overrode the text display after I sectioned.)

Thanks,

Joe

In case anyone else faces a similar situation, it's not possible to pass the values in a drill through link on the header. I expected that the sectioned report would have a definite value from the query associated with each section "heading," but that does not appear to be the case. Values taken from the query to populate parameters pass through to the target as null when the drill through is set on the header text rather than on a data value in the cross tab.

Live and learn.

Thanks,

Joe
