Title: now you don't now you do
Post by: cognosfreelancer on 14 Feb 2006 12:40:17 PM
This happens very consistently both with Report Studio and Query Studio.

Open a report and start running it...report keeps running and running.

Cancel the report and rerun it, it gets back data almost immediately.

There is no caching anywhere.

I run into it and it's frustrating.  The other frustrating thing is opening a query subject folder and the hour glass flips and flips and flips and flips and flips.....forever....and hangs everything.  In QS you can save the query, exit, go back in and the folder opens fine.

I wish it would let us know when it's going to do that so we don't waste our time waiting!

There is a little bug in Cognos series 7 which can cause this problem.  Is your temp db file filling up as well?  When you kick off the report, a connection is made to your database (I'm guessing you're using SQL server) and when you click "cancel", the connection is not severed.  To correct the problem, you will need to cut the connection at through the server.  My understanding is that this bug is resolved in Cognos 8.
