I see this in each poster's profile. What does it mean

When you log on you will see "Applause this members' contribution" and "Warn others about this member" right below the Forum Citizenship. If you click "Applaud..", it adds a point for citizenship. Atleast that's what I found some time back. So that's the + . So I presume if you click on "Warn..", it might add to the - points.

It's probably to give recognition to members for their contribution.

That's correct, cognostechie. It's a forum karma thing - when someone helps solve a problem it's customary to acknowledge the contribution by clicking on 'Applaud'. This adds to the '+' for the contributing party. This way, other users can gauge how good/helpful/reliable another user has been.

I might, however, just re-format the numbering system from '+/-' to just a single number (eg. instead of +5/-1, just show '4')
