Title: Do I really need a new query for every report page?
Post by: nestea on 14 Jul 2010 06:08:27 PM
Greetings All,

Pulling out my hair on this one. I'm new to Cognos, so even the most basic formulas are amiss.

Got a big list of stuff with names in a column.
I'd like to make an Excel output report with a tab for each person and have only their stuff show up on each tab.

It works dandy for one person, because I used detail filters to grab his name. Now when I make a new report page for the second person - I feel like I have to create a new query, apply name filters, and use query #2 for the next person and so on. Not to mention I'm having trouble linking query #2 with report #2 - but that's another thread..

I feel like that is not an elegant way to program. Is there a way to filter names for each different report pages from a single query? There must be..

I appreciate all the views/replies in advance..

Cheers

Check on the use of pagesets. These allow generation of a new page for a new dataitem value. There are quite a few posts on this forum that give detail info

Nestea, did you get this working?  If not, we can have a quick chat to discuss the best way to take care of it.  I'm sure it is frustrating at times being new to Cognos, so feel free to contact me.
