Title: Summary Metrics
Post by: china2005 on 16 Aug 2005 04:31:39 AM
Hello,

Just trying to find out how to create a summary metric.  Basically I want a metric at the top level of my scorecard hierarchy which is a sum of all the metrics in the level beneath it?

Can this be done?

Hi,

There is no rollup of values, as such through from children to parent within CMM.

One option is to use the metric type that you've used to create the child metrics to create a parent metric.  Then use a pre-staging process to calculate the patent level metric data for the staging tables.

Another option would be to create a calculated metric based on the values of the child metrics.  This option would not be suitable if you expect the definition of the parent to change.

If however your summary metric is to be based on several metrics then I think that the calculations should be prepared for the staging table and a new metric type and metric created specifically for this purpose.

cheers,
DW

Summary metrics, become, essentially measures which you can show to the users from a ReportNet report or PowerPlay cube in an Analysis Pathway of the metric.

Remember CMM is for metrics management and for aggregated measures, the best practice is to link it to a report or a cube. ???
