Hi Everyone
I am trying to connect to a SQL server database using ODBC (SQL 2000) that I already have successfully connected using Framework manager...however the cognos connection give out the QE-DEF-0285 error and remedy on cognos site is to change log on to another user for the C8 services.
This solution has not yet worked for me...any suggestions would be greatly welcomed.
Also this is single comp installation with SQL server on a separate machine.

Hi,

QE-DEF-0285 is a generic error when the login fails - what is the rest of the error message after this?

Have you made sure that the Cognos 8 server has the required ODBC connection defined in the Windows ODBC Administration console?

MF.

Hello,

I have the same issue in our test environment, but when I try to test the connection it fails every second time even though the dispatcher is the same. I have also tried to add a administrator user to the cognos service in Windows.

Regarding the ODBC connection in Windows, we don't have anything defined in there regardless of environment (production, test) but it's working in production...

Is this for a multi-server configuration?

If your data source in Cognos 8 is defined as an ODBC type, you will need the corresponding ODBC connection in Windows to be able to connect to the underlying data source.  If you are using a native connection type in Cognos 8, the windows ODBC will not be required.
