Publishing reports in 7.3 to ReportNet

Version 7.3 of Powerplay is quite a disappointment when it comes to publishing reports directly to ReportNet. You cannot.

The only way to publish is through the PPES admin tool. Even this approach is limited in that all reports can be published to only one fixed location. Likewise with the cubes.

This is a security problem as it will mean that all delegated admins can view reports published by other delegated admins.

I was wondering whether anyone has encountered this issue and what your thoughts may be on working around this.

That's partially correct.

You are correct by saying that you can only publish from PP admin tool.

However, each folder can have it's own publishing target.

It would be nice to have the ability to publish from PP Client directly to CRN, but guess what: accordingly to what was presented at the User Conference down in Florida, there will not be a PP Server in Series 8, so they are probably not going to put in this particular functionality in 7.3 MR3 for example.

For now, as an alternative, you can still host your Upfront Server and embed it's content in Cognos Connection. Not exactly what you hoped for, I know.

Thanks for the reply.

Can you please clarify what you mean by your statement "However, each folder can have it's own publishing target. "

When I changed the location of the target folder for publishign reports from my Powerplay admin tool, I saw that change reflected in the Powerplay admin tool of a separate user on her own computer!.

I am not sure how we can have multiple target locations.

Glad to ...

First, let me say, you should not have to many admins for PowerPlay, because things can get messy. There is only one PowerPlay Server, therefore if somebody has access to PPADMTOOL and PPES has not been secured, each person will be able to see everything the others do. And overwrite whatever others did (very dangerous).

If you go to any Folder properties, Settings tab, you will see that there are two folders ReportNet publishing. One for cubes and one for reports.

So what I was trying to say is "you can have various publishing targets, one for each folder". But not one for each user.

As a workaround, you could have just a couple of admins for publishing cubes, while superusers would have the ability to only save new reports to Cognos Connection.
