[solved] Import Description and Screen Tip into Framework Manager

Has anyone figured out a way to import the field description and screen tip into Framework Manager, rather than manually editing the information? ???

you could edit the model.xml file... but this will be quite tidious ... i would assume even worse than doing it manually... unless there is a xml editor that would help you..!!

Oh yeah, also please.. if you decide to modify your model.xml file, make a backup of it first..!! ;)

On our system, the database guys created an eXcel spreadsheet of database fields with their description.Ã,  I used cut and paste (cntl-C, cntl-V) to put the eXcel description in the screen tip field.Ã,  This helped our users in Query Studio determine the actual information contained in a database field.Ã,  Although somewhat tedious, it was better than having to type it in each time.Ã,  Additionally, when a new model had to be created (twice now), I was able to run the old log file from the previous model as a script to get the descriptions inserted into the screen tip fields.Ã,  I will do the same when our next new database comes out next month.Ã,  I hope this helps, best of luck!

Cognos has sent me a draft knowledge base article (1004504) that provides instructions on how to pull descriptions from an Oracle database.
