Hi

We have a dashboard report with 9 charts on it.

When we are running the report, the charts are displaying very slow. First the data is displayed and then charts are dispalying.

Please share your ideas if any about the charts, how to display them fastly. Any settings need to changed??

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

This could be a multi-layer issue.

I would try looking into pre-running the dashboard and showing only the latest version of the report.

This will not save you if your problem is network speed- your dasboard is easily generating over 3Mb of traffic. On slower connections that equals to a minute of download time...  :o

Well, something for you to start with... If these two points are of no use, you're in the jungle of query performance tuning...

Cheers,

HI

We recently migrated our reports from 8.4 to 8.4.1

In 8.4 these dashboard reports are running fast we observed the delay only in 8.4.1

I think its not Query performance!!

May be the network or some configuration setting??

Thanks!!

If you don't have any prompts on the Dashboard page you could pre-run it and display this presaved version which would be very quick.

I realize this doesn't answer your question, I am upgrading from 8.4 Sp2 to 8.4.1 and will have to pay special attention to my dashboards in test to see if I also experiance the timing changes.

Outch... 8.4.1 is only on it's way for me... Will be looking out for this little bugger.

Have you had any luck with it on your own already?

Sorry no luck  :-[

We are trying to contact Support team for this issue

MMcBride

I have 8.4.1 running on my test server now and for me my dashboards are pretty much the same between 8.4 and 8.4.1.

One Dashboard I have has 5 Viewer elements on it with a chart in each and it opens in the same time.

One dashboard I have has a dashboard report with 6 charts and 3 HTML "containers" with links and images that allow a hover preview based on Java Script. So as a user hovers over a report link it shows a static image of the report. - I point this out because to load the report I have to preload all of the Images - thats 19 800x600 jpg files I load when I load the report.
This report also loads in the same time as my 8.4 environment.

I have another dashboard based report that loads an HTML based Tabbed table with 5 charts and 5 scorecards - same timing as 8.4

So from my perspective I am not being affected the same way that you appear to be
Could it have been something in the upgrade process itself that caused this?
I don't really "upgrade" I export my full content store with user security included and then uninstall the old and install the new.

Modify my custom interface files, import my content into a New Content Store - this is probably overkill but it means I can always just install the old version of the software and point to the original content store if somethign goes wrong...
I upgrade this way even in my test environment.

My content Store is on DB2 9.5

Hi,

Finaly got arround to testing 8.4.1

Sorry to say this- no issues with the dashboards... Just like MMcBride.

Have you tried monitoring performance of different components of your cognos environment to see where it gets stuck (i.e. web server/application server/database)? Does one of your servers go crazy while waiting for results or are they all idling?
