Cognos 8.3 FP3 Content Store Deployment (Export)

We have a Cognos 8.3 FP3 BI environment in a distributed configuration (1-Gateway, 3-Dispatchers, 2-Content Managers)

I have created a export to export/dump the entire content store. The export fails, the size of the content store is 7GB (several report outputs exist, etc).

Within the 'Advacned' settings I have added the following two enteries;

CM.DEPLOYMENTSKIPUSERREPORTOUTPUT = True
CM.DEPLOYMENTVOLUMESIZE = 1024

Has anyone ran into issues exporting the content store of this size.

Try deleting any old export definitions that you don't need any more. They take up alot of room in the content store. That and saved report output versions. The bigger the content store, the chances of an export failing increases exponentially.

Also you don't happen to be running an Oracle RAC for the content store are you? Cognos is notorious for not playing very nice with RACs. Otherwise a database-level backup may be your only option.

Thanks for the feedback. We are running in a Windows 2003 / SQL Server 2005 environment.

Hi,

Have the same issue with 8.3.  Seems we have a memory leak in the Java.exe process.  Haven't managed to fix the issue yet though.

Our Content Store is also about 7gb and it seems we have logical deletions within it.  Of course the only way to clear this is to deploy out and back in again.  Fails every time at present though;-(

We have been trying to fix for a couple of weeks now with Cognos support and it all came to a head today.  Currently users are unable to access the front-end at present, as we get a "CAM Authenticate" error.

Cognos advised the changes you offer, but we are unable to get even onew '.zip' file written before Java blows it's memory limits.

Any help gratefully received.

This might not be related but I thought I would toss this out in case...

I was getting Out of Memory type errors as well and was talking with my DB2 DBA at lunch one day and he suggested we try to up the SQLCache on the Database side, it seems the Query Cognos was using to export the system was huge, he changed this setting to a dynamic entry and my exports have not failed since.

I am running 8.4 on DB2 9.5
