Hello there,

I apologize if this is not the right place to post this question.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea about how the licensing works at ibm Cognos? They apparently changed the way the product is sold. Initially Cognos sold the software per Server. Now it's per Micro processors. When they say micro-processors, and I have a dual CPU Server, do I need 2 licenses to install one app in one server? I've check the ibm sites and other online sites but couldnt come up with anything helpful? Any help from you will be greatly appreciated.

Any other information about purchasing/renewing ibm Cognos license would also be very helpful.

Thank you.

I guess any information will do because we are not getting anything helpful from ibm.

I believe our license is also user role based. We have licenses for Reporting Developer, Reporting and Professionsal Author. I am a bit lost as to what the differences are. To me there seems to be some kind of overlap.

Thank you for taking the time to research this for me Bunker. I really appreciate your help.

Hi,

There are currently two licensing models you can choose from - a Named User system, or a system based on "PVU" (Processor Value Unit).  The latter option is where IBM assigns a license cost based on the number/power of the processor(s) used in the server(s) Cognos 8 is installed on, whereas the former can be deployed on however many servers are appropriate to support the purchased user licenses.

Hope that helps!

MF.
