Here's a weird Report Studio bug I found. I've been able to crash my browser using IE6 or IE7 and Cognos 8.3 or 8.4 with this method:

1)       Create a blank report. Any package will do.
2)       Add a table to the report. Any number of columns / rows.
3)       Set the background image property of the table to something fitting this pattern http://asdfasdf. (including the ending period). Any letters between // and the period will work. You have to type this. Cutting and pasting will not crash the browser.
4)       Your browser will freeze and you'll have to kill the process in Task Manager.

Thanks for the heads-up.  Hopefully most folks on here will not have image file names ending with . but if they do run across this, it's good to see a post detailing the cause.

Cheers!

This does not works for me. I am using IE7 and Cognos 8.4. Reports runs perfectly even if I add http://aaaaaaaa. as background image to table

This is not a helpful post.  Showing the cause of a crash is a good way of avoiding it.  You should avoid negative comments and possibly posting until you can learn basic grammer.
