Hi All,,,

I have created iqd successfully,, now i am inserting it as data source in transformer 8.4. it showing error,, database can not be read,, error with *.ini file... i have researched a lot, and i am doing everythign right,, for example, edit the cog7.ini file in installation directory,,

only one question should we have to create data source in ODBC Administrator .

My configuration like this.

Cognos 8.4 sitting on my local machine
trying to connect to the database in different server.

i have done following task till now,,

1. Enter database connection string to .ini file
2. create ODBC
3. my databse is oracle.

if anyone can give me reply..

thanks,
dhavcog

Hi,

How is Cognos 8 connecting to Oracle - via ODBC or native?  If it is via ODBC, you will need to make sure that the ODBC connection is configured exactly the same on the machine running Transformer.

Are you sure you are modifying the correct ini file?  Try adding the database connection string to your cs7g.ini file (in Program Files\Cognos\c8\CS7Gateways\bin) in the [Databases] section.

thanks for yoru help,,

so i have corrected the ini file.. so to solve my confusion,, we always need odbc connection in odbc administrator in order to connect to the databse,, so why we are creating data source in Cognos Connection everytime,, can't we use it.. ?

Hi,

Cognos Connection data sources are explicitly for use within the Cognos 8 architecture.  IQDs are not part of this - they are Cognos Series 7 technology.  This is why their connections need to be defined again in the cs7g.ini file.
