Metric type time hierarchy mapping

Hi all,

I'm new here, but have been lurking for awhile.  I'm new to Cognos, but have a good understanding of dimensional modeling and databases.  Reporting is the new part to me.

I'm trying to put together a few scorecards, but I can't find any good materials on how to create the metrics themselves.   I'm stuck in Metric Designer, trying to make an export, but I can't figure out what to put into the "Time Hierarchy Mapping" tab fields.  I've tried many things, but it seems that either I get an error during validation, or I get no data when I add the metric to a scorecard in Metric Studio. 

It seems that all of the materials that I can find see a (slightly) different screen there, and I'm at wits end trying to figure this out.

Please help!
