Upgrade from 8.2 to 8.4

Hi,

     We are upgrading from 8.2 to 8.4. If anyone has upgraded to 8.4, could you please provide set of instructions and any changes to do while upgrading? Thanks.

This should be really straight forward. Do all your preparatory backups just in case then you could try an inplace upgrade of the software you need to upgrade and check the reports from there. Do you have a test system to try this on? If so do that first so you know what you are up against.

It all depends on what objects you are upgrading. If only FM Model and reports then you might as well just create another Content Store DB for 8.4, open the FM Model in 8.4, save it and re-publish the packages. That will send the upgraded packages to 8.4

For reports, you can create a Deployment archive from 8.2 Cognos Administration and import it in 8.4.

For cube, you will need to de-compile the model, open it in 8.4, compile it again and re-build the cube.

If you have Powerplay client and want to upgrade those reports, you can use Upgrade Manager or re-write the reports in RS. Depends on your inventory and some other things.

A general answer is not possible. I would suggest read the 8.4 guide. It has the section for upgrade instructions.
