Using Excel as ODBC datasource

Hey guys, I need some assistance in setting up Excel as a datasource.  I think I'm so close to sorting it but something isn't quite right and I'm pulling my hair out!

Info first...

The spreadsheet in question is called Test.xls, is saved on the server (we'll call \\server\) at E:\Data\Test\Test.xls with a named range called NamedArea.

I am accessing Framework manager locally on my machine.

I have set up a System ODBC connection on the server:

I have then set up a connection in Cognos using the ODBC selection, in ODBC data source I have written Test(referring to the ODBC connection called Test) and on testing this I get a SUCCEEDED message from Cognos.  However, when I then go to connect to this through Framework Manager, I get the following error message:

I'm think that the problem is I haven't referred to the named area somewhere, but I cannot seem to work how or why this isn't working correctly.

Could someone assist?

Thanks  ;)

???  Can you not see the image?

I'm assuming that's what it is, the error is:

QE-DEF-0285 The logon failed.
QE-DEF-0323 The DSN(ODBC)/ServiceName is invalid. Either the DSN is missing or the host is inaccessible.
RQP-DEF-0068 Unable to connect to at least one database during a multi-database attach to 1 database(s) in:
ExcelTest

UDA-SQL-0031 Unable to access the "ExcelTest" database.
UDA-SQL-0532 Data Source is not accessible: "Test".
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

Cognos support is very light on support on how to set it up or in the way of error resolution on this.

Can you explain why this should fix my problem?  I am not in a position to apply fixes etc without running through the company's governance process.  The hotfix suggests:

QuoteWhen you try to configure a Text Data Source Name (DSN) by using the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator tool on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Microsoft Windows 2003, you may receive the following error message:
Ini File (or Registry) FilePath\schema.ini is corrupt.....[snip].....this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
.

As this isn't the problem I'm experiencing or what I'm trying to do, I would have to provide some serious justification as to why this should be applied.  I'm not even sure myself, could you explain?  Thanks

Do you have the same ODBC connection setup on your local machine that you are using Framework Manager on?

Of course!  That is what it is.  I neglected to set up the ODBC on my local machine.  The ODBC was set up on the Cognos server but was failing on my local machine.  Just added it there and it all worked fine.  Thanks for the nudge in the right direction!
