Hi Guys,

Does anyone have recommendations on best practices and how to's for implementing strategies for the integration of Cognos tools (i.e. Visualizer, ReportNet, PowerPlay, and Impromptu)?

We're working on a tool integration initiative where one can easily move from Poweplay to ReportNet or ReportNet to Visualize, or Powerplay to Visualizer, etc. with minimum effort.

Any suggestions, experiences, reference, recommendations, etc. would be appreciated.

Regards,

Anthony.

And what's available out-of-the-box seems not to be enough?

That's my point - what is available out of the box?  Would like to learn how others are utilizing what's available out of the box - any experiences, suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi Anthony

We are using ReportNet to integrate the various tools.

For e.g we now use ReportNet to replace Impromptu and Powerplay reports.

I think this is in line with the product strategy at Cognos.

We have Cognos Metrics Manager but do not use it. We have been able to craete fairly evocative dashboards with ReportNet.

It is so much easier to me as an administrator if we reduce the tool explosion.

There are various levels of integration in Cognos products. For example:

1. Transformer can use Impromptu and ReportNet query definitions for building cubes
2. PowerPlay can drill from any point in a cube to an Impromptu, IWR or ReportNet report
3. Visualizer can use PowerPlay cubes as source
4. ... and so can Metrics Manager
5. Decision Stream can automatically create Impromptu catalogs and PowerPlay cubes
6. CWS can access any Cognos source (well, almost)
7. I could keep going ...
