Data Source Test doesn't work

This is a Framework Manager configuration question.  I can create a project and create a data source to connect to a DB2 data source connection defined in the portal.  But when I go to test the data source, a dialog  box pops up and says:

[DataSourceName]: The user id or password is either missing or invalid.

It offers fields for those values, but when I enter them and click OK, the box just pops back up with the fields empty.  What am I doing wrong?

As a former DB2 DBA I'd say there is something amis with the installation/configration of your DB2 client. You need to speak to your DBA on this topic as working with DB2 sources needs more configuring than the common SQL server datasource

If you create the data source in the portal, this uses the DB2-Connections from the Cognos-Server.

If you test the sources within in your local Framework Manager-Installation, the identical DB2-Connections has to exist on your local machine. If not - the dialog box pops up ;)

Ahh - so in that regard it's something like the InfoSphere Warehouse Design Studio?  The same  connection must exist on the client as exists on the WebSphere server?

Thank you very much!

That worked great!  Now I can get on with importing metadata!  Thanks again, IceTea!

hello,

i am sorry, the original question is not very clear to me. if i am thinking correctly, you are able to create the datasource connection from FM. right? when you do this cognos does not use the db client on your location machine, but it uses the one installed on the server host.
and then you are trying to test this data source from your FM model..right? at this point it needs db client installed on your local machine to be working properly. had it been oracle i am sure its a problem with the tnsnames.ora file. i am not sure about the db2 client but definitely it has to be your db client problem. so make sure that you are able to connect to that datasource from your db client.

hope this helps to some extent.

Hi, I am newbie in cognos, and I am having the same problem ... can you explain me more about "Identical DB2-Connections" ?

MFGF

It simply means that you need the DB2 client libraries installed on the machine you are running Framework manager on, so that a connection can be established from Framework manager to the DB2 database.

MF.
