Framework Manager Automatically Update Data

Good morning All,

I would like to know if Framework Manager can automatically update the model when the datasource has changed.  For instance, when an additional table has been added to a database, or a new column has been added to a table, it is not reflected in Framework Manager when the Project is opened and the contents (data) below the namespace is viewed.  If I select the table, which had a new column added, and from tools select 'Update Object', then the table is updated and the added column is visible.  I can update the model and bring in the new table, but in order for it to be accessible to the user, it will have to be 'Published' again to Cognos Contents (Public Folder).  Sometimes, the object has to be deleted from the Public Folder in order for it to be visible and set the security.  If this is done, all reports created previously are lost, and this cannot happen.  All updates are now being done manually.

This is so cumbersome, because some customers have changes everyday to the databases which needs to be updated for them to create reports.

1. Is there any way for this process to be automated so that it does not have to be done manually everyday?
2. If not, does anyone know why?
4. Is anyone having this problem or has had this problem in the past?  How are you managing this process?

Thanks for any assistance  :)

The model itself only serves as a metadata source for 1 or more packages to be published. Even if you have no model query subjects defined then you still need to manually update the underlying database objects to rework the model.xml file that defines the framework.
Republishing is then part of the deal. Frankly, this is the way Cognos 8 works (AFAIK any other BI tool that uses a metadata layer)
You will want control over what you define in the model, which would invalidate having random updates to the model available to users.

Simply adding dataitems should not be a problem to existing reports. Adding complete new tables and adding joins etc CAN have consequenses..

Thanks blom0344,
That is actually what Cognos Support said as well.  I thought someone may have found a work around or come up with a script or something to make this process easier.  I guess there isn't one. ???

Thanks again and have a wonderful afternoon!

That is pretty much the way the design works, however, you will still need to manually rework model query subject, usage settings etc. It is a reoccuring job, thankfully FM is about the most reliable piece of C8..
