Hi all,

I am new to metric designer, and finding it difficult to get info regarding this error I am facing.
On trying to create a “new data source” while creating import data source in metric designer I get this page pop-up having the below message:

"This program cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address. ...."

The same appears during "Map the scorecard step" as I try to “set time and currency mapping’ and also while “creating metric type”.

Am I missing any web server configuration needed for metric designer? Just started with metric designer for the first time. I am using Cognos 8.1.108.17.

Since I have framework manager, event studio installed & working fine, have created several reports using report/query studio the whole setup is working with out any issues.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Sandra.

Hello,

Is there at least one Metric Store available on your application server ?
Looks like server\cmmstore by default.

if not

read the documentation qrc_mm_inst.pdf under the cmmsrvr installation archive you've dowloaded or on the Cd in order to create one.

I never like the feature of being able to create a metric store via Metric Designer.  Its a death trap, and support call generator more than anything.  The best thing to do is to start with creating your metric store data source inside your Cognos 8 portal.  This will force you to overcome any datasource configuration issues first.

Metrics Studio is very sensitive to the permission set and configuration properties of your database in SQL Server, or Schema for Oracle, and its black magic to get it to work with IBM's DB2.  I'm not slamming the product.  Its great, but the Metric Studio professional must pay extra attention to the explicit requirements for the database settings to have Metrics work properly with the database.  Its a one time hardship, and once done, you can focus on learning about how to use the metric studio package to your hearts content.  Take your time, and step through the manual.
