Hello All,
We are using v8.4 for our project and we plan to have multiple namespaces (Dev, Test) in one environment. I have not worked with multiple namespaces before this. So, I would like to know if we could maintain reports, packages with same names across multiple namespaces.
Also, how does one move reports/packages from one namespace to another? Would the system administrator be able to copy from one namespace to another or is there any other process. I could not find much information in the knowledge base.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated.

Thanks.

Do you mean multiple Cognos instances i.e. separate installations on one environment?

I wouldnt say separate installations. The primary objective is to make users aware what environment they are logging into. Its the same Cognos installation but we intend to create two namespaces Dev, Test and restrict access to content based on the namespace used to login. Since it is the same environment I was wondering if we could maintain reports, packages with same names across different namespaces. Say a user that logs into Dev creates a report named 'ABC' and it isnt visible to the user logged into TST. Would the user in TST still be able to create a report named 'ABC'?

Namespaces are purely a security mechanism. In your example you cannot have another physical report named XYZ. In Cognos you assign permissions so you could have one physical report named XYZ with different permissions between namespaces but its still the same physical report.

You can still maintain the same report name under different projects
