Hi I am having trouble with one PC with the pop up boxes not opening on reportnet 1.1 MR2 414.36

We use XP Sp2 we dont have any popup software switched on any ideas or IE6

We have downloaded and used filemon to monitor the software between a working one and non working PC.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also make sure you are using IE's JVM and not sun JVM.

Why would JVM matter? And by the way, I'm using Sun's JVMs only. NO problems whatsoever.

Sweden

if it only affects one pc, then it would be quite logic to compare the browser settings between a working machine and a non working one.

it is interesting that you are having no problems with Sun JVM.

By virtue of the fact that I am a Weblogic developer I have noticed that Weblogic administration works only if Sun JVM is enabled.

Whereas when I attempt to open Powerplay reports in Upfront in Windows mode, the popup box does not work unless and until I switch back to IE's JVM.

Can you test whether you can open Powerplay reports in Windows mode with the Sun JVM.

Oops! I got your name wrong. Sorry about that.

Hi Can anyone tell me what is this JVM all about. What is this Sun JVM and IE JVM. How are these two related to Reportnet.

Cognosfreelancer: I've had a gut feeling that it should work, but just to make sure I've published a Great Outdoors cube, than switched to open in Windows mode, got prompted by JRE 1.5.0_04 JVM if I'd like to accept the Cognos certificate, than got re-prompted by WinXP SP2 firewall if it shall allow PowerPlay to go through the firewall, and finally got the report opened in PP Client.

BIsrik: JVM stands for Java Virtual Machine. It allows a piece of compiled Java code to execute within your OS client space, be it Internet Explorer for example. Sun, makes all kinds of JVMs, usally more or less tied into a release of JRE (Java Runtime Environment). Microsoft provides only a small JVM for IE, because they've tried to swing JAVA their way, too, which most people did not like it and since than they are forbidden to tinker with JRE code. There is also a JDK (Java Development Kit) available, which allows you to compile JAVA source code. You can read more at http://java.sun.com/

Thanks got a fair enough idea what is JVM and what it does..

We have exactly the same settings on the PCs. Some guys at cognos Uk support were having the same problems.

We have thousands of users whos PCs are locked down. Cognos anwser was to rebuild the PC affected???

Installed an ran a filemon trace which showed that the non working PC could not invoke the excel software.

We have exhausted all avenues, checked registries etc.Any help would be appreciated

I had this same issue on a couple computers.

Try adding your cognos server as a trusted site in internet security.

I believe the issue was with ActiveX. I got so frustrated with the entire thing I just switched every DISABLED option in the internet and intranet zone to prompt or enabled.

It did fix the issue but now I need to figure out exactly what switch was the correct one :)

I will try. But I cannot see this as all PCs use the same platform, and are locked down.
So where can I get IE JVM.......

This is happening within cognos support as well??but they are not too worried?

<sorry CRiNge - I removed this bit...might be interpreted unfavourably possibly contrary to your intention, Hope it's OK. Drop me a line if not. Cheers! email@cognoise.com>

Does it happen to all users?
Added traverse rights to the user/s with the problem?

Why should Cognos Support be worried if it only happens on some machines, and 99% of customers NOT have the same problem...

Have you ever tried Microsoft Support?
