on the servers planning error logs have stopped updating. any idea why it stopped writing logs in planningerror log file?

sascha

Have you changed some of the Planning registry settings?

adityashah27

no I haven't.i will have to check with server admins. are there any specific registry settings which would do this?

adityashah27

thats interesting to know.
but i think we can use epdebug...exe to enable verbose. its the same thing right?

i was looking for the place where you define planning log file path. that you define in cognos config.

sascha

I havent't worked with epdebugger yet but it seems to do the same thing as the settings in the registry.

Where exactly do you change the path in cognos config? I haven't found that.

Are you logs still not working? Have you tried to restart the service?

blackadder

I've come across situations where the error log goes somewhere different if >1 user has signed into the Cognos server using the same UserId which is used by the Cognos Planning Service.

To keep the Temp files apart, windows creates a numbered subfolder under the %temp% folder for each additional user. I've seen some places where they have 3 or 4 planningerrorlogs because of this...

adityashah27

Sascha: yes logs have been working but showing in different folder. several times restarted services.

Blackadder: i think the situation u described is the real cause. Anyways, i wanted to know why my logs changed folder.

the temp folder path in cognos config is for planning error logs?

blackadder

Not 100% but I'm fairly sure it uses the TEMP variable rather than a Cognos Configuration setting.
