Hello,
Does anyone have any insight as to why COGNOS insists users on placing a number (1 thru 5) in front of a d-list?

Is this so people can keep them organized or does the system rely on this identifier? In other words, if I create a model and ignore this convention will I experience issues?

Thoughts or commentary would be great.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Abernabr,

Dlist are numbered so that when they are used in a Dcube the order is maintained. The Dlist order is very important to achieve the the format priority and the calculation priority of the Dcube. The format priority is from 1-5 where as the calculation priority is from 5 to 1. That is reason you would like to have the Calculation Dlist numbered as 1 meaning it should be ordered first in the Dcube.

I hope this answers your question.

This numbers are for people organization and for study materials  :)
Nothing will happen if you will not use them.
All orders can be set manually.

Thank you both.....

I just found it really contradictory when the training guides beat this concept to death but when you open one of "their" blue prints the methodology wasn't followed  :-\.
