Passing Prompts from 1 report to another

We have a master report that generates a standard set of prompts (50 of them, some of them optional) from a group of queries and a collections. In turn, the prompt values are passed to other reports via a parameterized URL. The secondary reports have prompt pages of their own, which are unique to that report (sorting and grouping of the target report). We do this because we have almost 300 report that respond to these prompts and do not want to have to edit and republish all of them when a collection changes.

In 1.1, we used to be able to pass the prompt values to be used as optional filters in the secondary reports without putting any value prompts, for those passed values on the secondary report's prompt page.
In 8.3, these prompts are not acknowledged in the secondary report unless we put the corresponding prompt on the secondary report prompt page. We see references to passing multiple filters to the secondary report, but they have to have a value prompt of the same name to receive them. Does anyone have a solution to this where the prompt does not have to be repeated on the secondary report.
