Hi,

I am trying to install Sun One Directory Server on a 2003 Windows Server.  We are running into problems.  We set this up pointing at the Server Sun one is installed on and port 9010.  When i go to apply in the dos prompt i became aware of an error on port 389

"bind() on port 389 failed: error 0 (No error)"

Then the apply doesn't work saying that the Directory Server is not responding.

Any ideas?

Did you configure it using the wizzard in Configuration manager?

Stejawh

Hi,

Yes through the wizard.  I got the error when Applying at the end.

Thanks,

Steve

Try to manually fill in the data in the Directory Server and in the runtime part.
If you telnet to the directory server on port 9010 do you get a blank black screen?

Stejawh

I get the error message

"Could not opne connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed."

I guess that's my problem.

Thanks,

Steve

Port 23 is the default telnet port.

open a command prompt and type in:

telnet servername 9010

(servername = the name of the directory server)

Can you tell me how you came to port 9010 for the directory server, as that is the default ticket service port.
The default dirctory server port is 389.

Stejawh

Sorry my mistake.

Wea re using port 389 for the Directory Sever.

If i Telnet Directory Server 389

Then i get a blank screen yes.

Thanks,

Steve

During the wizzard it asks to configure your dirctory server.
You are suposed to say yes to this ONCE so that the Cognos "Default" schema is created
including the default user class and Administrator user acocunt (password = blank)

Did you asnwer YES once during your setup at some point?

Stejawh

Hi,

Yes ran through the wizard and selected yes at that point.

Thanks,

Steve

Did you configure everything with the default password "admin1234"?

Stejawh

I kept the same password but re-entered it in each instance.

Thanks,

Steve
