Slow report issue

First off let me state I am new to Cognos Administration.  We are running 8.1.x

We are having a tremendous issue with slow reports.  It can take anywhere from 10-20 minutes to return the report back.  What I have discovered is when the report process kicks off the system is writing 2-3GB of data to the COGNOS8\TEMP folder in the form of UDA****** files.  These disk writes are causing our I/O to slow the report runs to an unacceptable level.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue.  I have looked into  RSVProperties.XML to disable usage of Virtual Memory (diagnostics I assume), setting the Cache in Config Manager to 80MB (up from the default 4MB).  Alas I am stumped right now.

Were you able to resolve your performance problem?  I am having performance issues as well.  Any information you could share would be very helpful!
