I have a Windows 2003 server with Cognos 8.3 installed and running fine.  I also have Cognos 8.3 installed and running on my windows xp laptop.  There is a DB2 content store database on both the server and the laptop.  What I would like to do it point my laptop at the Server so when I work on my FM packages they are published to the server.  I thought all I had to do was change the cognos configuration Content Store Database Resource properties to point at the content store on the server but after changing that and successfull test when I try to start congnos 8 service I get a string of error messages that look like this and eventually the service fails.
4. 10:16:21, 'com.cognos.pogo.contentmanager.coordinator.CMBootstrap', 'pogo', 'Failure'.
DPR-DPR-1035 Dispatcher detected an error.
Failed to send HTTP request or read HTTP response
5. 10:16:21, 'com.cognos.pogo.contentmanager.coordinator.CMBootstrap', 'pogo', 'Failure'.
DPR-DPR-1035 Dispatcher detected an error.
6. 10:16:21, 'http://ibm-b3144a7ae3f:9300/p2pd', 'registerInCM', 'Failure'.
DPR-DPR-1026 Unable to register the dispatcher in Content Manager. vwin-cog-tst01:9300/p2pd/servlet at this time. Will retry periodically.
Failed to send HTTP request or read HTTP response
This is repeated over and over.
I don't know if there are parts of the service I can turn off like "Batch report service enabled" and that is what the error is for.
Any help would be appreciated.

This scenario would basically add your Windows XP laptop as yet another "server" to your 8.3 installation.

For what you are trying to achieve, you need to put FM in its own directory and Program Group. Than you can switch back and forth at will.

Steven,

I agree with Darek.  A few more details to help you with this:

- Perform a new install of *just* Framework Manager, and put it in a separate directory (i.e. c8.3fm)
- Be careful when it asks you where to place the shortcuts -- Make certain that you identify a new folder structure so it does not overwrite your existing c8 shortcuts in the start menu.
- Once you are complete, you will have a separate folder structure with it's own Cognos Configuration - Use this to point to the server.  You can leave the existing Framework Manager set up to point to your Laptop.
- Finally, I would suggest creating a few shortcuts on your desktop to identify your 'Local' Framework Manager and your 'Server' Framework Manager.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

additionally to adjusting your shortcuts you might also want to rename the original entries in your start >> programs >> cognos xx list. this will help you to distinguish the "fm-version" in your "recent programs" part of the start-menu.
