Forthcoming C8 PowerPlay / ABACAB...

Hi,

Anyone know anything about the forthcoming PowerPlay for Cognos 8 / ABACAB?
I know this stuff is in beta testing, but does anyone know anything about where it will fit into the Product Mix?
What will it do, and where wil it fit?
Will it be an Analysis Studio replacement?
Will it need additional licensing, etc?

Hi,

When C8 came out without Powerplay Client, a lot of series 7 users had complained because they had become familiar with Powerplay. Analysis Studio was completely different and much slower because it did more behind the scenes than Powerplay did.
Moreover, Analysis Studio is more a slicing and dicing tool, as compared to Powerplay Client which was a reporting tool.

So, they're bringing Powerplay client back. In what form or shape it will come back in is not clear. Licensing issue is still being discussed, I believe.

Thanks, that's in line with what I've learned since I posted.

The licensing issues will be interesting - I hope they do something sensible.

However, I would have thought it would have been much more sensible to fix AS instead of bringing back a client based tool.
