Unable to execute Admin Link against Cognos Package

Has anyone run into an issue where you cannot execute and Admin Link built against a FM Package?  When setting up the link the package with all query items is visible and the link builds just fine, but it will not execute.

I keep getting an error saying it cannot find the package in the database.

Haven't seen this.  Does the service account have rights into the package?  Does your userid have rights into the package?

rwashburn

Yep, rights are setup all the way.  The weird thing is that I can see the qry items while creating the link and it will preview the data during setup.  Cognos support seems stumped also, but it hasn't been reported as a bug yet.

SomeClown

Huh.  I'm guessing it's a rights issue, but I'm not sure the context.  It wouldn't be the first time where the UI dialog in the Admin Console uses different rights and execution paths than ones used to execute the link.

Multi-server install?  Does the C8 services on the other machines run under the same account?

rwashburn

I agree with you that it could be a rights issue, but so far even though I've opened things wide no luck.  Cognos support has been working on it with me for about 3 weeks now with no luck.

I think what is happening is that the process that executes the Admin Link isn't aware of the Content Store.  I have a multi-server install with the Planning Store and Content Store in different databases (Oracle).  According to the docs and support this db config should work.

Is the link set as incomplete??

You need to make one of the Dimensions set as DATA. you might have the items all matched but nothing is set as the data, it doesn’t work like in analyst where you can match everything and the data will be transferred.
What you might have to do is create a 1 item field and call it DATA.

What roles does the service account belong to?

Separate databases is not the issue: have done other installs with this that work fine (mostly sql).

Link doesn't run interactively?  What rights to the machine does your login account have? Probably needs local admin

All Cognos services running under the same service account (BI and Planning both)?   (no documentation to suggest you need to do this, but I always do it as I do not trust that Cognos has a good handle on security contexts)
