I am trying to install cognos 8 with oracle 9i as database. But it is giving me an error message 'unable to connect to the data base, jdbc drivers not loaded'. But I am able to connect to oracle at the command prompt and see the tables. I have tried moving the 12classes.jar file but it doesnot help much either. I would greatly appreciate if anybody could tell me where exactly (I mean the path) does this 12classes.jar file need to be.
or anyother inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
ARK

Moving what exact file from where to where?
As from 8.3 it uses ojdbc14.jar, as mentioned in the install guide.

Thanks for the reply. I'm trying to install Cognos 8. I have Oracle 9.2. When I create Data Access connection from Cognos to connect to Orcale. Its giving me an error not able to load jdbc driver. I found in forum that I have to copy classes12.jar into Cognos folder. Where should I have to copy this file? If this is not the solution, could you provide your thoughts on this.

Thanks,

ducthcogtechie

Copy classes12.zip from oracle client\jdbc directory to c8\webapps\p2pd\WEB-INF\lib and then rename from classes12.zip to classes12.jar

Hello,
Thanks for the reply, I was able to start cognos service, when I am trying to create a new project it was giving me the following error "Unable to access service at URL:

http://localhost:80/cognos8/cgi-bin/cognos.cgi?b_action=xts.run&m=portal/close.xts

Please check that your gateway URI information is configured correctly and that the service is available.

For further information please contact your service administrator."

I have installed COGNOS under CognosServer folder, where is the configuration file to change the folder name from default to CognosServer. I did change the URL name in COGNOS configuration, it is still not working. I am guessing there is a configuration file, could you please provide some insight on this.

Start, programs, Cognos 8, cognos configuration. Environment.
Have you considered getting some training or reading the manual, as this way you will encouter issue after issue.

yes I did look into help and also looked at cogstartup.xml files everything looks ok.  Also I tried checked for the location of the file in the cognos8 environment the localhost information is the same. But it is still giving me an error when I am connecting to the framework manager i.e "unable to connect to the URL" I just want to know if I am missing on something here, which is why it is not working.

I never use the localhost entry in my installations. Recipy for disaster. Just replace it with the servername if in a simple lan or use the fqdn when in a large environment.
Are you running FM directly on the server, or from a client machine?

arkumar

I am using FM on the server machine

ducthcogtechie

Is the website running on http://localhost/cognos8 ?
When you paste the following url in your browser, do you get to see a website that is missing pictures?
http://localhost:9300/p2pd/servlet/dispatch

Did you install FM in the same directory as C8?

arkumar

I am able to see the website with no pictures when I paste the URL "http://localhost:9300/p2pd/servlet/dispatch. But the website is not running on http://localhost/cognos8. I installed the FM in different directory from C8.

ducthcogtechie

1. Deinstall FM, and reinstall it in the same dir as C8.
2. Replace all localhost entries with the hostname of the server.
3. Make sure your IIS or Apache is ocnfigured to run Cognos 8.

ARK,

Did you end up getting this figured out?

Thanks,

Zack
