Hi Gurus,
There is a strange phonemenon going on im my workplace.
Recently there was a database upgrade from Oracle 8i to 10g. Now I work on two machines and both have Impromptu loaded in it.
I upgraded the TNS files(tnsnames.ora) and sqlnet.ora files which the DBA gave me. Now, one of the machines, that particular report is running fine but the other machine is throwing me the error,

ORA-12514: TNS listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in correct descriptor.
How is this possible when both the machines are running Impromptu (Version 6).
Thanks guys

guruji

Hi,

its not the problem with the Version 6 , if have check the TNS file again and the location where u made the changes.

Regards
Guruji

Do you have multiple oracle instalations on you machines? If so, do both machine point to the same oracle home? Do they both point ot the same version of oracle client? Did you place a copy of the tnsnames in all oracle home/network/admin directories?
Also possible, do you have a tns_admin variable on the machine with the error? This variable can be set as a system/user variable or in the registry and overides the default path where oracle searches for the tnsnames file.
