Recenter Map Visualization on Selection

If I have a map on dashboard showing results for "all" states, how can I recenter the map on a particular state (I have a linked drop-down list) once I choose a particular state.

Initially, it comes up showing all the US, when I select say 'NY', I want the map to recenter itself and basically show 'NY' only and not continue to show the entire US map.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
