Confused about Converting Visualization's "Visualization properties" choices.

In CA v11.2.3, I 've noticed that if I have authored a report containing a Visualization container, and I select to "Convert" the Visualization - say from a Pie to a Bar - that there is a set of radio buttons at the bottom of the Visualization gallery display.

Those radio buttons are under the title of, "Visualization properties".  Any ideas on how these choices differ?

I've found the following instructions and minimal related description at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cognos-analytics/12.0.0?topic=visualizations-converting-from-one-type-another

"Procedure

1. Select the visualization that you want to convert, and in the report object toolbar, click the More icon More icon in the application bar and then click Convert Visualization.
2. Select a new visualization type.
3. To preserve properties that have the same ID and the same type, under Visualization properties, click the Preserve existing visualization properties radio button.
4. To use only the default properties of the visualization type that you are converting to, under Visualization properties, click the Use new visualization default properties radio button.
5. Click OK."

Is step/choice #3 above asserting that I MIGHT have made a change to a Property while working with the first Visualization I'd selected.  And, this is offering me the chance to try to retain my Property settings which are common to both the original and the new Visualizations?  And, #4 will RESET any of the Property settings that I had changed when working with the first Visualization?
