Hi All,

We are planning to move on premises Cognos application to AWS cloud. Currently we are on Cognos 10.2.2 and have customized skins and features according to our organization needs. We are on Linux platform.

1. Can we create a docker image of the current application and use it in AWS ?
2. Do we have Cognos 10.2.2 readily available docker image that can be used ?
3. Or we have to reinstall and configure from scratch in AWS machine ?

Thanks and Regards,

Hi,

Cognos 10 dropped out of support a while ago, so if I were you I would consider moving to Cognos Analytics (Cognos 11) before you consider anything else. I think there may be containerized versions of Cognos Analytics in future, but as of right now I'm not aware of anything available. I think IBM Cloud Pak for Data might be an option for you if you want to move to AWS, although it's much more than just Cognos Analytics so probably won't be cost effective. If you want to remain on Cognos 10 and move to AWS, you're going to have to install from scratch.

Cheers!

MF.

This question is on the Cognos Analytics board, but it appears to be about Cognos 10.2.2.  Considering you mentioned 10.2.2 "customized skins", this is a very important distinction.  Which version(s) of Cognos are you asking about?

This thread is from four years ago, but I'm here to help you with your question about moving Cognos to the AWS cloud. While the information might be a bit outdated, I'll do my best to provide you with some guidance.
1. Yes, it is possible to create a Docker image of your current Cognos application and utilize it on AWS. Docker allows for easy packaging and deployment of applications across different platforms, providing flexibility and scalability.
2. At the time of the thread, finding a readily available Docker image for Cognos 10.2.2 might have been a challenge. However, you could explore the AWS Marketplace or Cognos-specific resources to see if any compatible images are now available.
By the way, considering the ever-evolving nature of AWS, have you thought about exploring the latest top AWS certifications? These certifications can provide valuable knowledge and skills in managing cloud infrastructure, boosting your professional profile.
