Multiple Reports in one email

I have 15+ audit reports I am running out of Cognos, yet do not want to send them individually.  I am walking through this document:  https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-attach-multiple-reports-one-e-mail-when-bursting-reports

However when selecting the report options, the "Burst Options" indicator does not appear.  (Second pink arrow in the IBM documentation).  We are on 11.1.  Am I missing an update or didn't flip a bit I should have somewhere?

I should have added I am trying to do this in Event Studio, based on the above article.

Hi,

You will only see the "Burst Options" indicator when running/scheduling a report if you authored the report to support bursting. Bursting is really intended for situations where a single report needs to have its outputs distributed to multiple people or groups, so for example the report executes and sends three outputs - an output for the Americas to the Americas group, an output for Europe to the Europe group, and an output for Asia to the Asia group. The report would have one or more items to group on for bursting (driving the different outputs for each region), and a burst key to target where each group's output is sent (the CAMID or email address of each group). Unless bursting has been set up like this in the report, you won't get chance to enable it when running/scheduling the report.

In your case, if bursting isn't required, and you just want to send your 15 reports in a single email, use the approach outlined in the article but without the bursting - so add the reports to an Event Studio agent, then have the agent generate the email.

Cheers!

Thank you for your patience!  I did author all the reports I am sending but didn't set them to burst in Report Studio.  Oh well.  In Event Studio, what would you suggest I set the condition to if I simply want to send all of these on the second day of the month (in the schedule)?  Event Studio won't allow that condition to be blank.

I got a schedule to run ONCE with ONE report, and it sent me ONE email.   Great!  When I added a second report, and changed the time on the schedule, saved it, I never got any email.

Hi,

The way Event Studio works is based around a condition being true or false. Other than this binary true/false, it also allows you to determine the lifecycle of the condition, based on remembering the previous result of the condition and comparing the current result to it. It has four options:

- New Event. This is where the result was previously false, but this time is true.
- Ongoing Event. This is where the result was previously true, and is still true this time.
- Ceased Event. This is where the result was previously true, but is false this time.
- No Event. This is where the result was previously false, and is still false this time.

In the settings of your Event Studio agent, you can specify what you want to happen for each of these stages. I'm guessing in your case the email is only being triggered for a New Event?

Cheers!

Unfortunately the email I got was coming out of Cognos, not Event Studio.  So I'm still not getting anything out of Event Studio.

The condition I want is an ongoing condition of True=True.  I only want the reports to run on the second day of the month.  And nothing is happening - I'm not getting any emails on anything.

As an aside, how do I delete my test events/agents?

Thank you once again for your patience.

Hi,

Your agent's condition could be something really simple like 1=1. Of course, this will always evaluate to True, so your email output would be tied to both the New Event and Ongoing Event triggers. This seems the simplest thing to do?

In terms of when the agent runs, this is controlled by scheduling the agent once you've created it. If you want it to run on the second day of the month, just set up the schedule to do this.

You should be able to delete your saved agents from the portal - just locate where you saved them to and use the ellipsis alongside each.

Cheers!

After getting some help, we have discovered the following:  My status is showing "Succeeded", however I keep getting message "CNC-ASV-0050 Event condition not met" even when I have set the condition of 1=1, and I am not getting any email.

Hi,

Ah, ok. I think I might have misled you there with the condition. Let's just put it down to old age and senility on my part. I just found one of my own posts on this very issue (sigh).

For your expression, you'll need to reference at least one data item from your package/data module, so the expression [your item] = [your item] (using the same real item in each case) should get you past this issue.

Cheers!
