Cannot see 'Manage' option to get into Admin page

I installed Cognos 11.1.7 and didn't configure any Identity Provider yet and the anonymous access is still set to 'True' so the first time I go into Cognos page, it takes me to the page and shows the user to be Anonymous but I cannot see the 'Manage' option on the bottom left so I cannot get into the Admin page. I thought I would like to see the 'Everyone' group in the System Admin group and then configure the ID provider so it should let me get into the admin page.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

Was this a clean install or did you already have an instance of Cognos Analytics (or Cognos 10) which has been upgraded?

Cheers!

Hi MF !

We had cognos 11.1.4 installed on the same machine. I shut down the services and installed 11.1.7 in another folder. Created a backup of the Content Store of 11.1.4 and used the backup as the Content Store for 11.1.7

Should I use a new DB for the Content Store?

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

Using the old content store is your issue here. In the content store you will have a specific user allocated to the System Administrator role, and likely nobody else. As you haven't configured a security provider for the new instance this means there is no way to get access to the Admin functions as things stand.

As I see it you have three options:

1. Run a SQL statement that adds the Everyone group back into the System Administrators role. The link to this in the docs is here: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-add-everyone-group-cognos-system-administrator-role
2. Add your authentication provider into the config, making sure you use the exact same names and config options as in the old instance. You should then be able to log in as the user defined as the System Administrator (assuming all the CAMIDs remain the same)
3. Create a new content store and use this

Of the above, I think option 1 is the simplest and easiest, and hopefully gives you your "get out of jail free" card.

Cheers!

Hi MF!

You are such a genius, as always ! Using the old CS was the problem because I was a System Admin using my Active Directory ID and here I logged on as anonymous so I had no access !

I made a new DB and used that as the Content Store , configured Active Directory and now can get into the Admin page. Removed 'Everyone' and added myself to System Admin group.

Thanks again !

You're too kind! I'm glad you got it working. Using a new content store means you won't have any of the content from your old instance, though. If this proves to be a problem and you want to revert to using the old content store, then you always have option 1 above to fall back on if you need it.

Cheers!
