Hello,

First time posting here. Recently we upgraded to cognos 11.1.7. Initially things seemed fine. But this week, we are seeing this error when running reports on and off. When we retry running, the reports run fine - some times have to try 2-3 times/wait a bit and try.

UDA-SQL-0023 The connection to the "(DB name)" database has been terminated due to an unrecoverable error.ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE

I am not sure if this is upgrade related. Could some one please help?

Thanks

Thanks a lot for your reply. I am new to cognos administration so I might be asking very basic questions.

The issue is exactly as described in the first and third link.
For the first link - it says the solution is:

The firewall between Cognos Application Tier servers and the Oracle server has a configuration closing idle network connections
Remove the configuration in the firewall

where exactly would this configuration be? When I see our cognos firewall settings in configuration manager in our main application server, I just see option for Enable CAF validation and 2 other settings.

And for the third link - I think our problem could be similar - we use an oracle database. When we upgraded to 11.1.7 (or even before), were there supposed to be JDBC drivers added? Do you know exactly where for Cognos 11.1.7 (the link describes for cognos 10)?
In our install location\program files\drivers location I see only 2 jar files nzjdbc.jar and sqljdbc42.

I'm not very familiar with configuration, unfortunately, so I can't help you much there.

You need JDBC drivers if you want to work with DQM.  I can't remember the directory for 10.2.2.  The directory for 11.x is ..\drivers.   You need to supply the drivers yourself.  I don't work with Oracle so I don't know where they store their JDBC drivers but your Oracle DBA would be able to help you.  If you are using CQM you need to have the data base client installed on the machine where CA is installed.  Instructions about what is exactly required *should* be in the installation and configuration guide I would hope.

Thanks for the response. The issue in our case was with our oracle database and not cognos. I think some time out setting change fixed the issue (DBA handles that).
