Calculation Editor in Dashboards

Hello,

I've been looking at online resources trying to find something that showcases more advanced use of the calculation editor within Dashboards.

I am working with relational databases taking the source from data packages set up by IT. As an example, I am interested in creating calculations that include various filters within the calculation syntax. Let's say I want the calculation to ignore some filters that exist at the dashboard tab level or at the chart level, while taking others into account or even add other filters for the measure to filter on within the calculation syntax. Is it possible to add value series into the same chart that are filtered on different things ?

Also if I want to do some time intelligence calculations or relative date analysis for sales amount I'd be interested in adding into the chart the actual raw sales per month (no calculation needed), and compare it to a calculation that shows the sales for each charted period minus 1 year (for YoY comparison) .. or minus 1 month to compare each month to the previous month, or something that calculates the monthly average of the past 3 months and plot that monthly value against the actual sales in the respective present month. In any of these cases the calculation when dragged into the chart would show for each month a sales value determined by the relative context of the date offset.

Hopefully I'm not too vague, but are things like this achievable with Dashboard calculations or should they be done with charts created in Report Studio  ... or should these measures be created in the data modelling step so that these calculations are ready to use from the actual data package ?

Any feedback would help greatly.

Thanks a lot.

You can create relative time measures in your data module.  It has, out of the box, stuff which allows you to compare things like year to date to prior year to date etc.
