Hello community:

Sporadically our Cognos users tend to get the following error when attempting to create/generate a report:
"QE-DEF-0288 Unable to find the data source 'Example' in the content store."

When I hear of this error being generated for the Cognos user(s), I immediately go to check the package and everything works fine for me. Can you please post the causes of this error?
1. The data store may not exist in the content store (However, in our case it does)
2. Something may be wrong with the actual DB connection (DB connection seems to be fine, however)

Any others?

How did you resolve this ?  I get it whenever I open Framework Manager and attempt to TEST the package.  Seems like I dont have rights to see the Data Source or something.

It was a data source permissions issue. Tools > Directory > Data Sources tab. Some how the settings got changed, thus eliminating the particular user.

Thanks for responding.  I have FM 8.2.43.128 and there is no Tools > Directory  path that you mentioned in FM nor in Cognos Connection.  Perhaps your in an administration tool that I dont have access to.

I thought it might be this which is for 8.1, could also be for 8.2 I suppose:

Description:

Error occurs in Framework Manager when testing a data source connection.

Error Message:

QE-DEF-0288 Unable to find the data source data_source_name in the content store.

Root Cause:

The data source name specified in Cognos Connection does not match the Content Manager name of data source in Framework Manager properties.

Solution:

Ensure the data source name created in Cognos Connection matches the content manager datasource of the data source in Framework Manager properties.

Steps:

   1. In Framework Manager, open the project, select the datasource name under Data Sources, go to Properties, find Content Manager Datasource

Note the name and ensure the Schema name matches your database (they both are case sensitive).
   2. In Cognos  Connection, find the data source you have created for this package. Ensure the name is the same as the Content Manager Datasource in Framework Manager. You can copy/paste the name from Content Manager Datasource in Framework Manager to Cognos Connection.

Hello user bje:

"Perhaps your in an administration tool that I dont have access to."
You are correct, I have complete admin rights on the Cognos box & in Cognos Connection. If you do not, then you do  not see the Tools > Directory menu in Cognos Connection. Perhaps you should contact your Cognos admin, notifying him/her that you are receiving the issue that you are describing? They should then check the name(s) of the data source in Cognos, etc., since it seems you do not have permission to do so? My data sources/packages were named the same both in FM (8.2) and in Cognos Connection. The issue was with the permissions on the data source. Particularly, the Read & Traverse permission. Thus causing the error to display to those users not having the appropriate permissions to the data source, yet having permission to the package. When the user(s) would open the package in Report Studio and drag a Query item onto the report, running/rendering the report would then give the error message: data source not found in content store.
