Hi,

You can find details of all the supported Operating Systems plus much more on the Cognos Analytics Supported Environments page:

https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-cognos-analytics-premises-111x-supported-software-environments

You can choose your specific version of CA and (for 11.1.x) the deployment options (on-prem, cloud etc) to see specifics for your situation.

Good luck!

Firstly, migrating from Windows Server 2012 to 2016 for Cognos 11.x is definitely doable. You'll want to make sure your system meets the minimum requirements for Cognos 11.x on Windows Server 2016, and take backups of your existing environment just in case.

First off, Windows Server 2016 should work fine with Cognos 11.x. It's a solid choice for an upgrade. Here are some general steps you can follow: Backup Everything: Before you start, make sure you have a solid backup of your Cognos setup and data. Better safe than sorry, right? Check System Requirements: Ensure your Windows Server 2016 meets the system requirements for Cognos 11.x. You can find these details in the official Cognos documentation. Installation: Begin by installing Windows Server 2016. Once it's up and running, proceed with Cognos 11.x installation. You might need your windows 10 key during the process. Data Migration: Now comes the important part. You'll need to migrate your Cognos configuration, content store, and data.

Moving your Cognos 11.x from Windows Server 2012 to 2016 is a smart move for staying up-to-date. Compatibility-wise, Cognos 11.x should work fine with Windows Server 2016.
As for the migration steps, it's usually a matter of installing Cognos on the new server and migrating your data over. IBM might have some official documentation on this, so it's worth checking their website or forums for guidance.
If you're still looking for info, I recently came across a cheap Windows 11 Pro key that might come in handy for your server upgrade.

Well, if we're going to continue this ancient message thread, it should be up to date.

At the time the original question was asked, 11.x may have meant 11.0 or 11.1.  Now it could mean 11.0, 11.1, or 11.2, although support for 11.0 and 11.1 have ended.  (https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/lifecycle/search?q=cognos%20analytics)

To ensure compatibility, review IBM Cognos Analytics 11.0.0 Supported Software Environments.

I would not recommend Windows Server 2016 at this point as that would require another Windows upgrade relatively soon.  Supported versions of Cognos Analytics run in Windows Server 2022.

11.0 would require Windows 2016, but should not be used because support ended almost three years ago.  Cyber crime is on the rise, and 11.0 is no longer receiving security patches to keep it safe.
