Hello,

I have the following issue.
I am the admin on cognos Anlytics 11.1 R. I make reports for other users.
Also the users  have the ability to make new report  , New --> Report.

So far so good.

The main problem is this. I want the users to make their ones reports but
I also want the users do not have the ability to edit the admin-reports, I only want to run these reports, not editing and not saving as.

Thanks in advance.

Get them to write their own reports in their My Content folder. Alternatively, what we do here is we have a 'Request to Share' folder that anyone can save reports into. Admins can then validate those reports (make sure they don't run forever etc.) and move them into the 'Live' folders. Once they're in the Live folders the users can't edit them

I have made a share folder under Team Content directory. Over there I save the admin-made reports for the users.
Now these reports and only these , I would like cannot be edited by users ( i.e. only run as html, excel ) . They can do ...(more) --> edit reports.

Nonetheless, users must have the ability to make a new reports and saved them under My Content.
The problem is that  users open admin-made reports, and take the SQL code which I have into the sql object in the query explorer.

BigChris I do not understand the concept of the  'Live' folders. Can you  explain a bit more ?

Thanks in advance.

BigChris

Hi Eugene - Essentially we've got two sets of folders in the Team Content area.
1. Request to Share - the users can write reports in here, tweak them, edit them, delete them etc. At the moment we don't include any reports in these folders in schedules etc. but that might change in the future.
2. Department Folders - these are "published" reports in the sense that they've been checked, validated, they run reasonably quickly etc. They might be used internally or sent to clients. They could be included in schedules, events etc. Once they're in the department folders the users can't edit or change them. If they need to be altered it's either done by an admin, or the report is copied/moved back out to the Request to Share folders.

My Content remains under the control of the individual user. Anything in there is classified as unvalidated.

Does that help?

ok ,  BigChris.
First  how can I do it that in order users cannot  edit or change reports under Department Folders.
I would like to have the process step by step.  That is when someone open the report, I want the save as & pencil icon do not appear at the application bar.

Also when someone take a report from the   Department Folders to My Content dir , the report I want to stay locked and users do not open it for edit. Same as above.

How can I do it. What are the configurations steps.

Thanks in advance.

Create the View report from that report, so they can run the report only.
