Force prompt to null/reset when another prompt is selected

I apologize if there is a simple solution that I have overlooked, but I'm trying to figure out how to reset a default/previously selected prompt when another is selected.

For example, I have a period prompt that defaults to 'Previous Day'.  I also have a date prompt that allows the user to select a specific day based on a predefined range.  Currently, the user has to choose the root of the period prompt prior to selecting a day in the date prompt since they will obviously conflict.  Is there a way for me to tell the period prompt to clear out when a date is selected in the other prompt so the user doesn't have to remember to do it themselves?

I don't know if this helps at all, but I used this type of approach to do something similar.
