Query Filtering by Course Enrollment

I am seeking assistance with how to sequentially filter data:

1. Students who took Composition I
2. Students who took Composition I and earned a final grade of A, B, C

THEN- from that list of students

3. Students who went on to take 7 specified courses and the final grades of those courses

I know this is not specific, but I am new to Cognos and my method has not been effective.

I am able to generate a report page with the first Query (students who took Composition I and earned a final grade of A, B, C). I am stuck on how to further filter that list to include students who met the first Query criteria and then met the second criteria.
