Grouping lines on a report

Hi.  I write a lot of reports but there is one thing that I wish I knew how to do.

On a list report, can you force a blank line between groups of objects in that list?

For example, if you have a report like:

DEPT  EMP  SALARY
123    987     $100
123    654     $200
456    009     $100

Can you ask Cognos to put a blank line between Dept 123 and Dept 456?

It is a simple thing to want, but I have not been able to find a way to do it.

Thanks in advance...     John Natali

Hi ,
I think  you can try adding group footer that should serve purpose for you.
I am not sure if this is what you are looking for!

Let me know if it was helpful.

Not exactly what I need to do.

I need the report to look like this:

DEPT  EMP  SALARY
123    987     $100
123    654     $200
--- This is the blank line that I can't get Cognos to create
456    009     $100
456    010     $300

Snadgir30's suggestion should work for you.  Group on Dept (add a second copy of Dept for display purposes if it has to repeat as you've shown) and leave the group footer empty.  Set a height on it so it doesn't collapse (assuming same behavior in C8 as ReportNet).

Or, is the problem that you only want the space between those 2 specific Depts and not others?

Hi,

This approach should work fine - you don't even need to add a second copy of Dept, simply group on it, then delete the entry from the column's 'group span' property.
