Hi ,
Currently we are working on Cognos 10.2.1 and planning to move Cognos Analytics 11.x.

  • Can we directly upgrade from 10.2.1 to  11.X or is there any intermediate version I need to upgrade before upgrading to Cognos analytics. Also suggest us how to do an upgrade process for distributed architecture?
  • And can someone suggest us how to upgrade Cognos controller 10.1.1 to Cognos controller 10.3.1?

Thanks in Advance,
Aravind Kumar Sekar.

Hi,

You can move your Cognos content directly from 10.2.1 to Cognos Analytics 11.0.x - you don't need any intermediate versions.

You're going to need to install and configure the relevant parts of the CA architecture on the relevant servers and configure them to work together, just as you would with Cognos 10. One major difference is that CA doesn't necessarily need a web server - it has a servlet gateway you can use instead. You only really need a web server for things like single signon.

Cheers!

Hi MFGF,

Thanks for the reply.

I have one more doubt can I start the installation on top of 10.2 or I need to take backup, uninstall CA 11.x?

If I do the installation on top of 10.2 will the previous setting will be there or I need to configure from first?

Thanks in Advance ,

Hi,

No, you can't install Cognos Analytics on top of 10.x. They install into different folders by default anyway. You need to uninstall 10.2.1 first (or else install CA alongside if you want both running for a time.)

Hi MFGF,

So I need to take up of content store and uninstall the cognos 10.x then I need to install CA after that I need to restore the content store in CA?

The above method I tried in single machine installation if i am doing distribution architecture also same method can I follow ??

Thanks In Advance,

In terms of approach it's not really any different than upgrading from 10.1 to 10.2. Take a deployment of your content, uninstall the old version, install the new version across whichever servers you like and configure. If you point the new version of Cognos at the existing content store database, it will upgrade it (and therefore make it unusable in the old version if ever you want to revert). If you create a new content store database, you will then need to restore your deployment archive to get your content.

Cheers!
